so, let's talk gameplay

Hey there!

Maybe you read my first devlog, maybe you don't. I announced some first gameplay footage in it, and here it is!

I wanted to get this out a bit earlier, but I wanted to fix a major bug before doing it.

Bug is fixed, here is the gameplay.

Context: aton is a tower defense/offense game, where you are playing 1v1 against another human. Nothing is automated. You are building the turrets and you are spawning monsters by building spawners. All that while beeing pressured by the enemy player and the limited amount of space you got. Feel free to read my first devlog, I adressed anything from the main mechanics to the future of the project there (it would be too much to rewrite everything here).

Now, let's talk about what is in the video.

The video starts with a short look at the main menu. Everything you saw there is highly W.I.P!

After joining the game and finding an opponoent, you will be lead to the Map Voting Screen. Currently, 9 Maps are in the game and four of them get selected by random each time you start up the game.

After both players voted for a map, the game starts.

Let me explain the interface. Most of the screen get's covered by the map. Above, you see the building menu wich I explained in the first Devlog. The stats for both players, you and your enemy, are always visible on the top right.

They tell you about the name, health and money of your enemy.

The first thing both players placed this time, is a bank. It often is the best strategy, but on maps with a short path you might be able to get some first damage done by placing a spawner instead. Suprising your enemy often is a great way of outplaying him/her.

The rest of the game should be pretty self-explaining if you read the first devlog post.

I made a few cuts, since i wanted to show how the game looks, feels, and especially performs in the endgame.

Finally, I want to really be clear about something: You might see, that the game was pretty even, nobody really ever took much damage. That will change. Balancing really is hard to do with a game like this, and it is one of the things I am constantly working on.

The game is a pretty early version after all.

Thank you for reading and watching! I will try to answer to any questions asked as fast as possible! Feel free to add the game to your watchlist. There is a lot of stuff great coming towards you!

Have an awesome day with aton of great moments!

Dominik
